Research Status:
His research mainly focuses on the areas of multimedia networking, and network representation.
On Multimedia Networking, he proposed end-to-end QoS control method for MPEG video streaming over the Internet and wireless networks. His papers on this subject received IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) 2001 most cited paper, TCSVT 2001 best paper, IEEE ComSoc Multimedia Communication 2004 best paper awards. In addition, he proposed the principal concept and framework for multimedia cloud computing, particularly “media edge cloud” (MEC) architecture. Moreover, he proposed a propagation-based social-aware multimedia content replication framework, which received ACM Multimedia 2012 best paper award. He further proposed “Social-sensed Multimedia Computing” framework published in the Vision and View column at IEEE Multimedia and won the best department paper award in IEEE Multimedia 2018. His papers on this subject also received Multimedia Modelling 2013 and IEEE ICME 2014 best paper awards as well as ACM Multimedia 2012 grand challenge award.
On Network Representation, he proposed a structure preserved deep network embedding model. He further proposed asymmetric transitivity preserving graph embedding method for directed graphs. He then proposed Robust GCN, a model that "fortifies'' GCNs against adversarial attacks. To increase explainability of network representation learning, he and his team proposed disentangled graph convolutional network to learn disentangled representation for relational data, automatically discovering the latent factors of different relational structures. To enhance the generalizability of network representation learning, he proposed explainable automated graph representation through hyper-parameter decorrelation with theoretical guarantee. In addition, he designed and released the world’s first automated graph representation learning library, AutoGL, which is an open-source library for graph applications.
